A Polish Easter Table: Traditions on Display

The Exhibition of Traditional Easter Tables — now in its 15th edition — was more than just a feast for the eyes. It was a warm, vibrant celebration of Polish Easter traditions, regional crafts, and traditional Polish cuisine. The event showcased stunning tables brimming with symbolic foods, handmade decorations, and a festive spirit rooted in centuries-old customs.

This year’s event proved, once again, that Easter in Poland is a true sensory celebration — full of flavors, textures, and stories passed down through generations.

A Spring Festival of Color, Craft, and Cuisine 🎨🍽️

From the moment you walked into the hall, you were greeted by an explosion of color — floral arrangements, painted eggs, and folk Easter crafts full of charm. Carefully curated by regional craftswomen, each Easter food display told its own story. Some celebrated timeless folk motifs, while others offered a modern twist on cherished traditions.

Among the countless highlights, a few stood out for both artistry and heart:

  • 🐑 Intricately carved butter lambs — some with tiny peppercorn eyes and parsley wreaths!
  • 🍰 Home-baked babkas and mazurkas — full of sweet nostalgia and sprinkled with love.
  • 🌿 Handcrafted centerpieces and ornaments — using natural materials like moss, hay, cabbage, or even pasta!
  • 🍗 Savory showstoppers — like roast meats styled to look like woodland scenes or adorable animals.

One of the most creative displays was a cottage made entirely from cold cuts and cheese — complete with a salami fence and a hard-boiled egg garden. Equal parts artistic and delicious!

A Celebration That Feeds the Soul 💛🌷

More than anything, the exhibition reminded us that Polish Easter customs are about more than food. They’re about gathering, storytelling, and honoring the rhythm of spring. Whether it’s a simple butter lamb on the table or a hand-painted pisanka in a basket, every detail radiates care, joy, and deep cultural meaning.

So whether you’re Polish or just curious about new Easter traditions from around the world, embrace them this spring. Bring a little piece of this festive magic into your own home. Taste, decorate, and celebrate the season with your heart (and table) wide open.

Already counting the days until next year’s edition — until then, wesołych świąt and smacznego! 🌸🐣

  1. What an impressive array of wonderful foods, Mike! I love those Eurpoean traditions that encourage families to gather and connect. Tomorrow we celebrate Easter at our church, complete with morning brunch, then drive to our family’s home, where more food is served. Thanks for sharing your beautiful traditions and Happy Easter ✝️

    1. Thank you so much! These traditions truly show how food brings people together. Your Easter celebration sounds so special! In Poland, we start Easter morning with a breakfast of foods blessed in church on Holy Saturday – it’s one of my favorite moments. Wishing you and your family a joyful and blessed Easter! 🐣✝️
