A dragonfly hovering above the lake, silhouetted against warm evening reflections after the birds stayed out of reach.
The poor summer weather continues. Rain, heavy clouds and strong winds have been the story of this summer lately. Better weather is finally on the horizon, but in the meantime I wasn’t ready to stay indoors. I headed to my favorite lake hoping for some bird photography, knowing the conditions probably wouldn’t be ideal.
A mother duck leads her ducklings across the lake as the sun sets, creating soft reflections on the calm water.
It was a calm and warm evening when I returned to the lake. I was curious to see if the same family of ducks I had spotted the other day was still around. I went to the same spot among the reeds, set up my camera, and sat quietly. The gentle sounds of the lake made the wait peaceful. Soon, I realized I was about to witness something special. I saw the ducklings at sunset moving through golden reflections on the water.
Mother duck leads all her ducklings closely behind her across the lake.
Yesterday I went to my favorite lake, thinking it was too early in the season. The weather was still too cold for much wildlife. To my surprise, I spotted a mother duck with her ducklings at the lake just before sunset. They were moving among the reeds, and Mum was cautious at first. I stayed completely still, and she gradually came closer, letting me watch her little family.
A coot moving quietly through the reeds on the first day of spring at my local lake
On a sunny spring day, I went for a short walk around my usual lake — the one close to home where I often go to watch water birds and catch the evening light. It’s not a big or spectacular place, but it’s quiet and easy to return to throughout the year.
Blue hour at a flooded lake in early spring, where last year’s reeds and distant birds shape a quiet, in-between moment
You don’t notice the light first here — you notice how the lake begins to breathe. Wind moves through the trees behind you. Water shifts quietly at the edges of the flooded ground. Somewhere out there, across a surface that’s hard to read in the fading light, come the scattered calls of birds — ducks, coots, grebes, swans. Beneath it all, a low, steady murmur: frogs waking after winter.
Turquoise waters framed by pine trees, leading toward a rugged mountain under a cloudy sky
It was a warm but comfortable day in the mountains — drifting clouds above, sunlight shimmering across a turquoise mountain lake below. From the pine-lined shore, the view unfolded in perfect harmony: emerald needles in the foreground, crystal-clear ripples glowing in shades of blue and green, and the rugged slopes of the mountain rising with quiet authority. Nature didn’t need grandeur to impress; the balance of colors and textures spoke for itself.
Sunset over a lake in central Poland, where clouds glow in soft violets and peaches — mirrored perfectly in still water
Some evenings, light doesn’t fade — it transforms. This sunset over a still lake in central Poland unfolded like the sky’s slow exhale. Clouds rolled across the horizon, shifting from deep violet to fiery peach, while the water below mirrored every hue with painterly calm. Along the distant treeline, wind turbines stood in silent silhouette — not imposing, but quietly observant.
The quiet transition of seasons, with nature and technology coexisting in the haze
This photograph captures the meeting point of nature and technology — where frozen water, mist, and towering wind turbines coexist. The lake remains partially covered in ice, while the morning mist softens the industrial structures in the background. The warm hues of dawn contrast with the cold elements in the foreground, emphasizing the transition from winter to early spring.
Early spring’s quiet pause at Pilchowice Dam on the Bóbr River.
A peaceful lakeside dock, resting in the cool, muted tones of autumn. The boats sit idle. They are waiting for their next journey. The overcast sky adds a layer of calm to the scene. The distant hills fade into a soft haze, giving the landscape a quiet, almost timeless feel.
