Right at the end of the summer holidays, my family and I went to the Polish seaside. Usually, late August isn’t the most obvious time for a beach trip. The water is no longer particularly warm, stronger winds are more common, and evenings can feel quite chilly. Still, we wanted to get away for a few days and reset before the new school year began.

We usually stay in larger seaside resorts, but this time we chose Białogóra, a small and peaceful village known for its picturesque dunes, soft white sand and clean water. We were prepared for rain, as the forecast didn’t look particularly promising. As it turned out, it was completely wrong. Instead, we got four hot, sunny days.

I’m not really a seaside person anyway. I’d much rather be in the mountains, so I spent quite a bit of time walking, exploring the surrounding nature and, of course, taking photographs.

During one of my walks, I heard quite a commotion coming from underneath the roof of a small building. When I came closer, I discovered a nest full of young swallows. They seemed completely unconcerned about people walking around nearby.

Two adult birds were busy feeding the chicks. Whenever one of them approached the nest, the previously calm youngsters suddenly became very noisy. All five opened their bright yellow beaks, waiting impatiently for their meal.

I managed to capture a few moments with my small Canon G1 X. The heavy Nikon had stayed at home this time. The swallows were clearly much more interested in their next meal than in me. It was a lovely little encounter to end our first day by the sea.
