The view from Kasprowy Wierch towards Beskid was one of the highlights of our trip to the Polish Tatras. On the second day, my son and I climbed to the summit before continuing along the ridge, while my wife, whose heart belongs to the sea rather than the mountains, waited for us at the Murowaniec mountain shelter. Although the uphill trail was only about three kilometres long, it was demanding, with large uneven stones and several steep sections that required careful footing.

Jay Gathering Twigs on a Summer Evening

The weather has been anything but typical lately. Just a few days ago, temperatures in central Poland reached 39°C. Even the evenings felt tropical. Cycling was still manageable on my road bike because I could stop to refill my water bottles. Carrying a heavy camera, however, was another story. Walking in the full sun with several kilograms of gear simply wasn’t appealing. That made this jay gathering twigs one of the few wildlife encounters I enjoyed during the heatwave.
